Effects of Finishing Treatments on Fabric Friction

CODEN: JTEVAB

Abstract

Simulation of finishing treatments to knitted and woven cotton fabric substrates causes significant changes in their frictional properties. It is found that the smaller the difference between static and kinetic frictional forces, the smoother the fabric surface. The changes in the amplitude of the stick-slip frictional traces appears to be the best indicator for assessing the effectiveness of finishing treatments on the tactile sensation of smoothness.
