Comparison of Bending and Tension Tests in Creep of Sheet Metal

CODEN: JTEVAB

Abstract

A technique is presented for obtaining creep data for thin sheets using a test in which the whole sheet is arranged as a cantilever loaded by its own weight. A theory is given for deriving creep parameters from measured deflection rates in two tests. A stress-strain rate curve is derived from a number of tests using the skeletal point method. Tensile and bending tests were performed on superplastic eutectoid Zn-Al sheet at room temperature which demonstrated the applicability of the bending test to obtain creep properties of superplastic alloys. Erratum to this paper appears in 2(1).
