A Double Acting Piston Based Automatic Volume Change Apparatus

CODEN: GTJODJ

Abstract

This paper presented the details of a double acting piston based volume change apparatus for measuring volume change during the routine soil testing in the laboratory. The apparatus works in the principle of movement of a piston when water flows through a cylinder. The volume change was related to the area of the cylinder and the displacement of the piston. The accuracy of the apparatus in measuring the volume change was validated by performing tests on a normally consolidated clay sample and a sample of dense sand.
