Image Processing Technique for Determining the Concentration of a Chemical in a Fluid-Saturated Porous Medium

CODEN: GTJODJ

Abstract

This paper presents a color visualization-based image processing technique for the quantitative determination of a chemical dye concentration in a fluid-saturated porous column composed of glass beads. In this image processing technique, an image filter is designed by taking into account the porous structure of the medium and color characteristics of both the fluid and the solid particles to extract the color representation of the dye solution in pore space, which enables the image quantification. A comparison of experimental results with analytical and numerical simulations illustrates the efficiency and accuracy of the image processing method for determining the chemical concentrations in the porous medium.
