You must be registered to attend ASTM Meetings. Use our online registration form where you have the ability to register for multiple events, pay fees in advance using a credit card and receive an electronic confirmation. You may reguster onlinr at the "Register" link above.

When you preregister online you will receive emails on committee meetings, final announcements and other information that will help you prepare for your meeting. The registration information significantly assists us in preparations for the committee week.

The cut-off for preregistration is Wednesday, November 28, 2012. After this date please register on-site at the ASTM Registration Desk at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott.


All meetings will be held at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott, 235 East Main St., Norfolk, VA 23510. Reservations may be made at both the Norfolk Waterside Marriott and the Sheraton Norfolk Waterside. Reservations may be made at both the Norfolk Waterside Marriott at Reservation at Norfolk Waterside Marriott 757-627-4200 or the Sheraton Norfolk Waterside at Reservation at the Sheraton Norfolk Waterside 757-622-6664. Select your dates and proceed as instructed. If you need assistance with your hotel reservation call the hotel directly. Hotels are located across the street from each other.

Group rate will be honored until the ASTM block is full but no later than November 5, 2012 ASTM rates are $129. All guest rates are subject to a Norfolk 8% city tax, 5% state tax and $1.00 city bed tax (you must mention ASTM in order to receive a group rate). You may be charged a higher rate if reservations are received after the cut-off date, or when the block is full.

U.S. GOVERNMENT RATES: The Norfolk Waterside Marriott a limited number of rooms at the government per diem rate of $89. To obtain a government rate, Government Reservation at Norfolk Waterside Marriott or call the hotel directly at 757-627-4200. Please refer to the ASTM International government block to make your reservation.

IMPORTANT! ASTM Rates are non-commissionable. If you book your reservation through a travel agent they must ask for a non-commissioned ASTM Group Rate. ASTM cannot adjust your higher rate if commissions were paid to a travel agency.

ADVANCE DEPOSIT: The Norfolk Waterside Marriott and Sheraton Norfolk Waterside require a credit card to guarantee your reservation.

CONFIRMATION NOTICES: The Norfolk Waterside Marriott and Sheraton Norfolk Waterside sends confirmations by email.

CANCELLATION/CHANGE POLICY: The Norfolk Waterside Marriott and Sheraton Norfolk Waterisde require a 72 hour notice prior to arrival date for refund of deposit.

INTERNET: The Norfolk Waterside Marriott offers wireless connections in the guest rooms at a cost of $9.95 per day. There is complimentary internet service in the lobby of the hotel. The Sheraton Norfolk Waterside offers wireless connections in the guest rooms at a cost of $9.95 per day. There is complimentary internet servie in the Club Lounge.

ASTM MEMBERS WORK AREA: ASTM is providing computers with an internet connection. This area will also be wireless for your laptop computer. You may visit the ASTM website, apply or renew your membership, order publications or check your email. The complimentary wireless service is limited to the members work area only. The meeting rooms throughout the hotel will not have internet connections.

AIRPORT SHUTTLE SERVICE: James River Transportation Shuttle Service is available 24 hours at the baggage claim terminal at the Norfolk International Airport. Reservations are recommended call 757-963-0433. The cost is $27 one-way. Taxis cost approximately $40.

PARKING: Overnight parking at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott is $19.00, valet parking is $26.00 and self parking is $12.00. Sheraton Norfolk Waterisde parking is valet overnight $22.00, parking just for the ASTM Meeting is $12.00 and self parking is $1.00 per hour up to 4 hours after 4 hours parking is $13.00. Both hotels have in and out privileges.


ASTM will provide several training sessions on various subjects to educate and assist officers, members and non-members of ASTM committees. The following topics will be discussed:

  • Workshop: Committee D02 New Member Orientation Workshop
    Monday, 7:00am - 8:00am
    Wednesday, 7:00am - 8:00am

    This orientation will include an overview of ASTM and the organization and structure of D02. Learn about your role and responsibilities as a new D02 member. There will be an opportunity to ask questions. All new members , especially new members and visitors, are encouraged to attend. The orientation will be presented by James Simnick, Committee D02 First Vice-Chairman.

  • Workshop: Introduction to the Interlaboratory Study Program
    Monday, 12:00pm - 1:00pm
    Tuesday, 3:00pm - 5:00pm
    Wednesday, 8:00am - 10:00am

    This module is designed to familiarize members with the ILS Program, its features, capabilities, and online registration process. Accessed via the 'Members Only" pages of the ASTM Website, you will be guided through a complete ILS registration, highlighting the information that will be requested in the process. Research Reports will also be specifically addressed during the session. This program will benefit anyone planning to run (or participate in) an Interlaboratory study to generate a precision statement for new or existing ASTM test method. Presented by Phillip Godorov and Caitlin Farrell, ASTM ILS Staff.

  • To complement the ILS Workshop schedule above, additional ILS Q&A sessions have been scheduled with ASTM ILS Staff - Review, plan, and discuss current and upcoming interlaboratory studies with ASTM ILS Staff. Open to all. Q&A by Phillip Godorov and Caitlin Farrell, ASTM ILS Staff.

  • The Sydney D. Andrews Scroll Achievement Award Luncheon (Tuesday) 12:00pm - 1:30pm - The Sydney D. Andrews Scroll Achievement Award will be presented to Alex T. Lau at a luncheon. Please register on line in advance of the meeting in order that appropriate arrangements can be made with the hotel. Congratulations to Alex for this recognition by Committee D02.

    Refreshments will be available at all sessions.


Several ASTM committees collect a voluntary fee to support activities associated within the committee such as awards, social events, etc. Each committee determines the amount, encourages your contribution, and can be paid on-line in advance on the preregistration page. This voluntary contribution is not an ASTM International society fee.


Several committees hold planned banquet events. You now have the ability to purchase your tickets on-line in advance on the preregistration page. Your tickets will be available on site at the Registration Area.


ASTM meetings offer on-site services from the ASTM staff. We provide photocopying service, audio/visual equipment, and a members' work area with complimentary internet computers. We also have an editor on-site to assist you with the form and style of standards, editorial changes and first drafts of standards.


Join us for coffee and breakfast pastries Monday through Wednesday from 8:30am to 9:30am at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott. A representative from the Norfolk Convention and Visitors Bureau will be on hand with information on what to see and do in Norfolk. PRIVATE HOSPITALITIES - Please remember that groups hosting hospitalities in meeting rooms may begin no earlier than 6:00pm, Monday through Wednesday. This will avoid conflicting with ASTM meetings. Attendees have the option to determine their dress at ASTM meetings. Business casual attire is acceptable at this meeting and appropriate for Norfolk. The average temperatures in December range from a high of 52 degrees to a low of 35 degrees.


Please advise the hotel and ASTM of any disability which will require special attention. The Norfolk Waterside Marriott is in compliance with ADA standards.
