Abstract

This specification covers UNS S31673 chromium-nickel-molybdenum wrought annealed stainless steel surgical fixation wires. The wires should conform to the required values of tensile strength and elongation. Wire surfaces should be processed to minimize tool marks, nicks, scratches, cracks, cavities, spurs, and other imperfections that would impair wire serviceability.

Scope

1.1 This specification covers the chemical, mechanical, and metallurgical requirements for the manufacture of wrought 18 chromium-14 nickel-2.5 molybdenum stainless steel in the form of surgical fixation wire.

1.2 Units—The values stated in either SI units or inch-pound units are to be regarded separately as standard. The values stated in each system may not be exact equivalents; therefore, each system shall be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in non-conformance with this specification.
