Proposed Revision to ASTM International Standard Aims to Reduce Hardness of Turf Fields

Translations

A proposed revision to an ASTM International impact-attenuation standard aims to reduce the hardness of synthetic turf fields.

The revision (WK38153) to the “specification for impact attenuation of turf playing systems as measured in the field” (F1936) seeks to reduce the maximum “g-max” score which measures a field's hardness.

The existing standard was developed by ASTM International’s committee on sports equipment, playing surfaces, and facilities (F08). The standard sets the current g-max score maximum at 200. The revision proposes a lower threshold to reduce the risk of impact injuries.

Participation in the development of this revision is open to anyone with an interest. Become a member at www.astm.org/JOIN
