Douglas Wells Honored with Top Annual Award from ASTM International Fatigue and Fracture Committee

ASTM International’s committee on fatigue and fracture (E08) presented its top annual award – the Award of Merit – to Douglas N. Wells, technical specialist, damage tolerance assessment branch, NASA Marshall Space Flight Center, Huntsville, Alabama, USA. The prestigious award, which includes the accompanying title of fellow, is ASTM’s highest recognition for individual contributions to developing standards.

The committee honored Wells for exceptional and sustained technical and leadership contributions to ASTM International. In particular to the development and update of fracture mechanics test methods, task group leadership, and symposia, workshop, and publication activities. Wells has previously been honored with the Award of Appreciation (2013 and 2017). 

An ASTM International member since 2001, Wells is also a member of the committees on additive manufacturing technologies (F42) and nondestructive testing (E07).

Wells holds a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering from Virginia Tech and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Stanford University.
