accredited iacet provider
Price: $799
About the Course

This course provides a high-level overview of ASTM A370 Standard Test Methods and Definitions for Mechanical Testing of Steel Products through a media-rich, interactive eLearning course. The course can be completed in approximately four hours.

Learning Outcome

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Identify the two common types of loading systems for tension testing.
  • Recognize the various tension test specimen types and the ASTM A370 guidance for preparation of these specimens to their applicable dimensions and tolerances.
  • Describe the determination of various tensile properties through speed of testing, gauge making, and dimensioning of test specimens.
  • List various ASTM A370 hardness testing platforms and when they should be utilized.
  • Describe superficial hardness testing as depicted in the ASTM 370 Rockwell standard section.
  • Explain when the use of a portable hardness testers is allowable and how its hardness number shall be reported.
  • Recognize minimum test results for Charpy impact testing such as results for absorbed energy, fracture appearance, lateral expansion, or a combination thereof, at a specified test temperature.
  • Identify the Charpy impact machine, its principle features, and some common indicating ranges in ft-lbf/joules.
  • Recall the methods for evaluating ductility by performing the bend test, in relation to steel product specifications and/or ASTM Test methods E190 and E290.
