ASBESTOS SURVEYS (E2356): includes group workshop

  • Baseline Surveys: long-term management of asbestos-containing materials
  • Planning and Costs: how to prepare for a comprehensive survey
  • Field Work: how many samples to take of different materials and how to collect them
  • Sample Collection: how many samples to take of different materials and how to collect them
  • Analytical Methods: when and how to use Polarized Light Microscopy and Transmission Electron Microscopy
  • Report Preparation: going beyond the laboratory results to thoroughly document the survey
  • Assessment Protocols: an innovative quantitative method to help prioritize removal decisions

ABATEMENT PROJECTS (E1368 & E2356): includes group workshop

About the Instructor

Andrew F. Oberta, MPH, CIH holds the unique combination of Aeronautical Engineering and Master of Public Health degrees. He is an internationally recognized expert on asbestos control, having consulted and lectured in Germany, Greece, Brazil, Israel, Japan, and Canada as well as in the United States.

Oberta was chair of the ASTM task group that developed the E1368, E2356, and E2394 standards covered in this course. He is also the author of the ASTM Manual on Asbestos Control. He held numerous offices in the National Asbestos Council and eventually served as president of the Environmental Information Association. He also chaired the Asbestos Subcommittee of the American Industrial Hygiene Association. He has served on an advisory panel that developed the Asbestos Strategies document to guide EPA in formulating asbestos policies and an EPA expert panel on sampling and analysis of vermiculite attic insulation.
