ASTM D2700 Standard Test Method for Motor Octane Number of Spark-Ignition Engine Fuel -- eLearning Course
Price:
$174
About the Course
This course is based on ASTM D2700 Standard Test Method for Motor Octane Number of Spark-Ignition Engine Fuel. This test method covers the quantitative determination of the knock rating of liquid spark-ignition engine fuel in terms of motor octane number, including fuels that contain up to 25 % v/v of ethanol.
The course takes approximately 1 hour to complete and includes instructional video content, interactive knowledge checks, and a self-grading quiz. Downloadable resources include a pdf of the standard.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course, you should be able to:
Identify apparatus, reagents, and reference materials used for determination of motor octane number of spark-ignition engine fuel, including components of the test engine and reagents used for the cylinder jacket coolant.
Recognize sampling requirements outlined for ASTM D2700.
Describe basic engine and instrument settings and standard operating conditions, including those for valve set-up and timing.
Recognize test variable characteristics, including barometric pressure compensation of cylinder height.
Describe procedures for engine standardization and checking engine performance, including determination of whether an engine is fit for use and methods of validating the engine system.
Recall the steps for bracketing and C.R. procedures for determining motor octane number, including steps to be taken when a fuel's O.N. falls outside of permissible tolerances.
Recognize steps for calculating the octane number.
Identify reporting requirements for ASTM D2700.
Certificate and CEUs
CEUs: .2 or 2 PDH
