    About the Course

    This test method covers the determination of the stability of gasoline in finished form only, under accelerated oxidation conditions. (Warning: This test method is not intended for determining the stability of gasoline components, particularly those with a high percentage of low boiling unsaturated compounds, as these may cause explosive conditions within the apparatus. However, because of the unknown nature of certain samples, the pressure vessel assembly shall include a safety burst-disc in order to safeguard the operator.)

    The course can be completed in about one hour.


    Learning Outcomes

    By the end of this course you will be able to:

    • Identify the boiling point range of motor gasoline
    • Identify what leads to gummy and unstable compounds liable to form gum in storage
    • List why gum deposits can be harmful to carburetors
    • List the procedural steps for Section 10.1 of ASTM D525 in the correct order
    • Recall the temperature in °C that is to be maintained after the charged pressure vessel is placed into the liquid bath
    • Identify the equation used to calculate the induction period when the test temperature is above 100 °C
