Objectives
This training program is designed to help you:
- write better steel specifications and purchase orders;
- perform better QC checks on steel products before, during, and after product delivery;
- become more competent at accepting/rejecting steel products;
- become more competent at reviewing steel product material test reports; and
- better apply ASTM steel standards by understanding the basic steelmaking practices used within them.
Learning Outcomes
The following learning outcomes will be achieved upon completing this eLearning course.
- Identify the steelmaking processes that use the basic oxygen furnace and electric arc furnace, as applied in ASTM steel standards
- Distinguish between heat and a lot of steel, and also between heat analysis and product analysis by applying ASTM steel standards
- Distinguish between steelmaking by the ingot and continuous strand casting processes, as applied in ASTM Steel Standards
- Demonstrate the ability to identify the steel refining practices of making rimmed steel and killed steel by applying ASTM steel Standards
- Demonstrate the ability to identify refinement by ladle metallurgy furnace practice by applying ASTM steel specifications requirements
