Objectives

This training program is designed to help you:

  • write better steel specifications and purchase orders;
  • perform better QC checks on steel products before, during, and after product delivery;
  • become more competent at accepting/rejecting steel products;
  • become more competent at reviewing steel product material test reports; and
  • better apply ASTM steel standards by understanding the basic steelmaking practices used within them.

Learning Outcomes

The following learning outcomes will be achieved upon completing this eLearning course.

  • Identify the steelmaking processes that use the basic oxygen furnace and electric arc furnace, as applied in ASTM steel standards
  • Distinguish between heat and a lot of steel, and also between heat analysis and product analysis by applying ASTM steel standards
  • Distinguish between steelmaking by the ingot and continuous strand casting processes, as applied in ASTM Steel Standards
  • Demonstrate the ability to identify the steel refining practices of making rimmed steel and killed steel by applying ASTM steel Standards
  • Demonstrate the ability to identify refinement by ladle metallurgy furnace practice by applying ASTM steel specifications requirements

About This Course

This e-learning course is comprised of:

  • 20 Connecting-the-Standards© examples demonstrating how to use 9 ASTM steel standards;
  • 21 photos and diagrams explaining steelmaking and ASTM standard requirements
  • 9 videos showing steelmaking processes and practices
  • 10 Knowledge Checks, including interactive skill tests; and
  • Final assessment quiz to measure your knowledge level and earn IACET CEUs

Who Should Attend

This eLearning course is designed for all people that work with ASTM steel standards or simply want to learn more about steels.

Accreditation

ASTM is recognized by the International Association of Continuing Education and Training (IACET) as an Authorized Provider of Continuing Education Units (CEUs), under the ANSI/IACET 1-2018 Standard, for good practices and quality continuing education and training programs.
