ASTM and CASTI E-Learning Series - Certification Preparation

    About the Course

    The API 510 ICP instructor-led Live Session is designed to assist those e-Learning course registrants requiring additional explanation of complex subject areas, including all math calculations from the e-Learning course. There will be no new material covered; discussion will be based around the e-Learning course content and examples will be taken from the e-Learning system.

    Note: The Live Session is instructionally designed to supplement the prerequisite e-Learning Course and is not available for purchase separately.

    The Live Session will be held over a 2-day period. Each day will begin promptly at 8:00 am and end at 5:00 pm local time. There will be a 1-hour lunch break each day, however, lunch is not included.

    Learning Outcomes

    By the end of the Live Session, learners are expected to be able to do the following:

    • improve their exam skills to identify the exam documents to reference for different types of questions
    • better perform math calculations as needed for the API 510 ICP exam and
    • determine topic areas in the API 510 ICP Body of Knowledge that require further self-study.

    The following topics will be covered during the live two-day session. Questions from the learners related to other topics from the e-learning content may be addressed by the instructor if time permits during the live session or outside of session hours.

    API 510 Pressure Vessel Inspection Code: In-service Inspection, Rating, Repair, and Alteration

    • Math Calculation Portion of API 510
      • Pressure Testing 5.8
      • Internal, On-stream, and Thickness Measurement Inspection Intervals 6.5
      • Pressure-Relieving Device Inspection Intervals
      • Corrosion Rate Calculations 7.1.1 (short-term and long-term corrosion rates)
      • Remaining Life Calculations 7.2.1
      • Maximum Allowable Working Pressure (MAWP) Calculation 7.3.3
      • Fitness-for-Service Analysis of Corroded Regions 7.4
      • Minimum Distance Between Fillet-Welded Patch Temporary Repairs and
      • Overlay and Repairs to Existing Welds with Filler and Base Metals of Different Strengths
    • General Rules of API 510, Welding, and Hot Tapping 8.1.7
    • Responsibilities (brief review of the responsibilities in the entire document

    ASME Section VIII, Division 1 Rules for Construction of Pressure Vessels

    • Covers all content listed in the current API 510 ICP Body of Knowledge, including all math calculations, to prepare for the exam

    ASME IX WPS/PQR Review

    • The learner is required to complete the ASME Section IX modules to self-study the basic requirements and how to use the code
    • The live two-day session will only cover a review of a sample WPS/PQR to better prepare the learner for the ICP exam

    API 572, 576, 577, 571, and ASME Section V

    • The learner is required to complete all the e-learning modules to self-study this content.
    • The live session will only cover a brief review of these exam documents to better prepare the learner for the ICP exam.

    Who Should Attend

    The e-Learning-Plus-Live Session is suitable for those e-Learning customers that require face-to-face interaction with an instructor. Learners that prefer a classroom environment to cover more complex subjects will find the Live Session to be a beneficial supplement to the e-Learning course.

    Reference Documents

    Students are expected to bring all exam document PDF files listed on the API 510 ICP Effectivity Sheet to the Live Session, which can be purchased from the CASTI website.

    About the Instructor

    John Bringas, Professional Engineer, has practiced metallurgical engineering, inspection, and NDE for over 40 years. He has served on 32 codes and standards committees in 6 international standards bodies. Mr. Bringas has held many inspector and examiner certifications, including: API 510, 570, 653, 571, 577, 580, AWS CWI, and CGSB radiographer and ultrasonic examiner. In recognition of his dedicated career in codes and standards, Mr. Bringas has been honored with awards from ASTM International, and the Canadian Welding Association. He is the author of 22 CASTI course notebooks and is the Chief Subject Matter Expert for ASTM/ CASTI API ICP Courses.
