    About the Course

This test method covers the compaction of asphalt mix into cylindrical specimens using the Superpave Gyratory Compactor (SGC). This standard also refers to the determination of the relative density of the compacted specimens at any point in the compaction process. Compacted specimens are suitable for volumetric, physical property, and mechanical testing. Smaller specimens may be cut from the compacted cylindrical specimen for specific test specimen geometry requirements. The compaction procedures apply to Laboratory Mix Laboratory Compacted (LMLC) and Plant Mix Laboratory Compacted (PMLC) asphalt mix.

The course can be completed in about one hour.

    Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

    • Determine the difference between bulk density and specific bulk density
    • Identify what Superpave Gyratory Compactor (SGC) is used to produce
    • List the tests that compacted specimens are suitable for
    • Identify what ASTM D6925 is used to determine
    • Identify what requires periodic verification of calibrations according to Section 6.1 of the standard
    • List procedural steps in the correct order.

    Audience

Anyone who runs the D6925 test method or who needs an understanding of the test method and how it is properly run.
