ASTM C204 Standard Test Methods for Fineness of Hydraulic Cement by Air-Permeability -- eLearning Course

    Price: $115.00

    About the Series

ASTM's Construction Materials Technician Series enables QA/QC technicians in the construction industry to advance their skills using leading, self-guided, computer-based training. The series is ideal for those preparing to become certified testing technicians through the American Concrete Institute (ACI), National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET), or a state agency such as the Department of Transportation (DOT).

    Each course includes:

    • Self-guided training complete with video demonstrations, checklists, concept presentations, data sheets and glossaries
    • Quiz with automatic grading
    • Certificate upon successful completion of course and passing score on quiz.

    About the Course

This course covers determination of the fineness of hydraulic cement, using the Blaine air-permeability apparatus, in terms of the specific surface expressed as total surface area in square centimetres per gram, or square metres per kilogram, of cement. Two test methods are given: Test Method A is the Reference Test Method using the manually operated standard Blaine apparatus, while Test Method B permits the use of automated apparatus that has in accordance with the qualification requirements of this test method demonstrated acceptable performance. Although the test method may be, and has been, used for the determination of the measures of fineness of various other materials, it should be understood that, in general, relative rather than absolute fineness values are obtained.

The course can be completed in about one hour.

    Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course you will be able to:

    • Define fineness of cement
    • Describe how fineness of cement is measured
    • Explain the scope and apparatus of determining the fineness of hydraulic cement using the Blaine air-permeability apparatus
    • Describe the methods of determining the bulk volume of compacted bed of power
    • Describe the process of preparing the test sample and calculating its mass
    • Identify the steps in preparing the bed of cement
    • Identify the steps in carrying out the permeability test of a sample
    • Explain the scope and initial steps of determining the fineness of hydraulic cement using the performance requirement qualification for automatic Vicat instrument
    • Calculate the specific surface of a test sample.
