This specification covers self-contained mechanically refrigerated air conditioners for shipboard use in air circulation, air cooling, and dehumidification. These air conditioners are intended for use in compartments and areas where central system air conditioning is not provided. The air conditioners should be of the following types, and arrangements as specified: type I - drip-proof protected, and type II - explosion-proof enclosed; arrangement A - with air discharge plenum, and arrangement B - without air discharge plenum. The operation, air-circulating equipment, ship inclination, capacity, overload, and condensation of the air conditioner shall meet the requirements prescribed. The inspection requirements specified in this specification are classified as follows: first article inspection; quality conformance inspection; visual examination; first article test procedures; and operating test.
