Abstract

This guide details the standard procedure for the application and protection of fully adhered EPDM (elastomeric terpolymer synthesized from ethylene, propylene and diene monomer), butyl, and neoprene vulcanized rubber sheets to be installed on concrete substrates. The structure and the deck should be evaluated, and found to be mechanically sound, able to accept the weight of the sheet and overburden, and meet the local building code requirements. Though not addressed here, the deck should be sloped to drain with a drainage media or layer above the membrane. Delivery, storage, and handling of materials, environmental conditions, and substrate preparation are dealt with as well.

Scope

1.1 This guide provides information to assist the specifier in developing a specification for the application and protection of fully adhered EPDM (elastomeric terpolymer synthesized from ethylene, propylene and diene monomer), butyl, and neoprene vulcanized rubber sheets to be installed on concrete substrates.

1.2 The structure and the deck should be evaluated, and found to be mechanically sound, able to accept the weight of the sheet and overburden, and meet the local building code requirements.

1.3 The deck should be sloped to drain with a drainage media or layer above the membrane. The drainage media or layer is not addressed in this guide.

1.4 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. The values given in parentheses are for information only.

This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.
