ABOUT THE EVENT
The Symposium on Antimicrobial Combination Devices will be held Tuesday, November 5, 2019. Sponsored by ASTM Committee F04 on Medical and Surgical Materials and Devices, the symposium will be held at the Marriott Marquis in Houston, TX, in conjunction with the November 2019 standards development meetings of the committee.
The objective of this symposium will be to discuss unmet needs regarding standards for antimicrobial combination devices including antimicrobial coatings on implants, antibiotic addition to bone cement, and antibiotic eluting devices. This symposium will build on the success of the previously held workshop on the same subject. It will bring to light the current state of standards and techniques utilized in the field, and to compare these techniques to other investigative method.
Topics for this symposium will include, but are not limited to:
- Analysis methods for quantifying biofilm
- Analysis methods for quantifying elution and efficacy
- Antibiotic bone cement
- Antimicrobial coatings on medical devices
- Medical devices that elute antibiotics
The language of the symposium will be English.

All Attendees – All attendees including presenters and ASTM members, are urged to register online for this event so that space requirements can be accommodated. If you do not register online by the closing date, then you must register upon arrival at the symposium. All attendees must check in at the ASTM registration desk upon arrival at symposium.
Students – A student’s fee is waived, provided he/she is a full-time student and is not employed full time. After registering online, the student must check in at the ASTM Registration Desk on site and present his/her student ID.

CONTINUING EDUCATION UNITS
Symposium attendees interested in receiving 0.6 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) must complete the CEU application form in the back of the program booklet and submit it to an ASTM staff member on site. You must be registered and have attended the entire symposium in order to receive the CEU’s. A certificate will be sent to the attendee approximately 4 to 6 weeks after the symposium.

ASTM International is legally bound to fill the contracted guest room block and an inability to fill the block will result in sever financial penalties which could affect negotiations and increase costs for future meetings. The discounted rate will be honored until the ASTM block is full, but no later than October 4th 2019. The ASTM rate is $199 plus tax. You may be charged a higher rate if reservations are received after the cut-off date, or when the block is full. The hotel requires a deposit of one night's room and tax or a major credit card to guarantee your reservation, once submitted a confirmation number will be provided electronically.

IMPORTANT! ASTM Rates are non-commissionable. If you book your reservation through a travel agent, they must ask for a non-commissioned ASTM Group Rate. ASTM cannot adjust your higher rate if commissions were paid to a travel agency.
INTERNET: The Marriott Marquis Houston offers a complimentary basic wireless connection in the guest rooms with the ASTM group rate.
CANCELLATION/CHANGE POLICY: At The Marriott Marquis Houston, notice of cancellation must be received 72 hours prior to day of arrival, in order to avoid a charge.
ASTM MEMBERS WORK AREA: ASTM will provide computers with internet connections. This area will also be wireless for your laptop computer. You may visit the ASTM website, apply or renew your membership, order publications or check your email. The complimentary wireless service is limited to the members' work area and the meeting rooms.

HOUSTON METRORAIL: At a cost of $1.25, guests can sit back, relax and will be dropped off curbside at either The George Bush Intercontinental Airport or The William P. Hobby Airport. Pick-up from the airport to the Downtown Houston area occurs every 30 minutes from 6:00am-12:58am. Approximate travel time is anywhere from an hour to an hour and twenty minutes. SHUTTLE SERVICES: Super Shuttle is a ride service that will take a hotel guest anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour between the hotel and the William P. Hobby airport. Cost is $38 for up to three passengers. For travel to the George Bush Intercontinental Airport, rides will take anywhere from an hour to an hour and twenty minutes, with a cost of $51 for up to three passengers. TAXI: TAXI: From The William P. Hobby Airport, the cost of a taxi is estimated to be $30. From The George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), the cost of a taxi is estimated to be $52.
