The Sixth International Symposium on Small Specimen Test Techniques will be held January 29-31, 2014. Sponsored by ASTM Committee E10 on Nuclear Technology and Applications, the symposium will be held at the Hyatt Regency Houston in Houston, TX, in conjunction with the January standards development meetings of Committee.

This sixth symposium will continue the tradition of the small specimen symposia series by specifically addressing the experimental, analytical, or computational aspects of small (and miniature) specimen techniques and their applications.

The language of the symposium will be English.

Online registration opens approximately 8 weeks before the symposium and closes January 22, 2014. The fees to attend this symposium are listed below. These fees include:

    -the Tuesday evening reception (cash bar),
    -the Thursday evening reception (two drink tickets per paid attendee)
    -the cost of the resulting Selected Technical Papers (STP that will be sent to all paid symposium attendees).

Students – A student's fee is waived, provided that he/she is a full-time student and is not employed full time. After registering online, the student must check in at the ASTM Registration Desk on site and present his/her student ID. The waived fee includes admission to the technical sessions, but does not include the STP described above.

All attendees, including presenters and ASTM members, are urged to register online for this event so that space requirements can be accommodated. If you do not register online by the closing date, then you must register upon arrival at the symposium. All attendees must check in at the ASTM registration desk upon arrival at symposium.

Symposium attendees interested in receiving 1.75 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) should complete a CEU application form at the adjournment of the symposium, and then submit it to the ASTM staff member on site. A certificate will be sent to the attendee approximately 4 to 6 weeks after the symposium.

All meetings will be held at the Hyatt Regency Houston, 1200 Louisiana St, Houston, TX 77002. Reservations may be made by via our online reservation system at Reservation at Hyatt Regency Houston.

Group rate will be honored until the ASTM block is full but no later than December 27, 2013. ASTM rates are $129 single/double plus 17% tax. The Hyatt Regency Houston has a limited number of rooms at the government per diem rate of $118 plus 17% tax. You must present your ID at the front desk upon check-in. You may be charged a higher rate if reservations are received after the cut-off date, or when the block is full.

IMPORTANT! ASTM rates are non-commissionable. If you book your reservation through a travel agent they must ask for a non-commissioned ASTM Group Rate. ASTM cannot adjust your higher rate if commissions were paid to a travel agency.

ADVANCE DEPOSIT: Hyatt Regency Houston requires a credit card to guarantee your reservation.

CONFIRMATION NOTICES: A confirmation number is provided to you electronically once your reservation has been submitted.

CANCELLATION/CHANGE POLICY: At the Hyatt Regency Houston, notice of cancellation must be received within 72 hours prior to arrival.

INTERNET: The Hyatt Regency Houston provides complimentary standard wireless internet connection in all paid guest rooms. The price for access through the hotel is $9.99 for 24 hours.

ASTM MEMBERS WORK AREA: ASTM will provide computers with internet connections. This area will also be wireless for your laptop computer. You may visit the ASTM website, apply or renew your membership, order publications or check your email. The complimentary wireless service is limited to the members' work area only. The meeting rooms throughout the hotel will not have internet connections.


The hotel is located approximately 20miles/20 minutes from the William P. Hobby Airport and 45 miles/45 minutes from the George W. Bush Airport. The hotel's phone number is 713-654-1234. AIRPORT SHUTTLE SERVICE: Super Shuttle provides regularly scheduled shuttle service from William P. Hobby Airport for $22 and the George W. Bush Airport for $26. Taxis cost approximately $30 from the Hobby Airport and $50 from the Bush Airport.

PARKING: Valet parking is $30 per night with in and out privileges.
