Sponsored by: E08 Fatigue and Fracture

Deadline for Abstract Submittal: Monday March 08 2021

    About the Event

The Symposium on Advances in Accelerated Testing and Predictive Methods in Creep, Fatigue, and Environmental Cracking to be held Wednesday afternoon and all-day Thursday, November 17 -19, 2021. Sponsored by ASTM Committee E08 on Fatigue and Fracture, the symposium will be held at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis in Atlanta, GA, in conjunction with the November 2021 standards development meetings of the committee.

    Objective and Scope

The symposium has two main objectives. The first of which is to promote innovative accelerated testing and predictive tools to characterize and model/simulate creep, fatigue, and environmental cracking behaviors of engineering materials for aerospace, nuclear, automotive, and many other applications. The second objective is to collect information, knowledge, and supporting documents for updating several existing ASTM fatigue, creep, and environmental cracking standards and seek opportunities for possible new standards development.

This symposium will provide a forum for engineers, managers, researchers and scholars worldwide to exchange ideas and best practices on the following topics on engineering materials:

    • Accelerated testing
    • Creep, fatigue, and creep-fatigue interaction
    • Environmental cracking
    • Test planning and experimental design
    • Modeling and simulation
    • Multi-scale simulation
    • Short-term and long-term predictability
    • Total-life and crack growth approaches
    • Identification of failure mechanisms and modes
    • Multiple failure modes and multiple-modal behavior analysis
    • Statistical and probabilistic data analyses
    • Data correlation and goodness-of-fit
    • Uncertainty quantification
    • Validation and verification methodologies
    • Industrial applications and demonstrations

The language of the symposium will be English.

    Publication

Symposium presenters are required to submit their papers to the Selected Technical Papers (STP), an online and printed, peer-reviewed publication for the international scientific and engineering community. After the final selection of abstracts has been approved, the ASTM Editorial Office will send authors’ instructions via email only. Manuscripts to be peer reviewed for the STP are due online no later than October 29, 2021 at the ASTM Editorial Office. The corresponding author (the author who is the main contact with ASTM Headquarters) will receive a copy of his/her paper in portable document format (PDF). All published authors will have the opportunity to purchase reprints of their papers at a nominal cost. Only those papers submitted by the manuscript due date will be included in the STP.

Please note that all submitted papers are subject to peer review by two independent reviewers. STPs will be submitted to the Library of Congress with an ISBN number and will be reviewed for inclusion in the Web of Science Conference Proceedings Citation Index (CPCI) and Google Scholar.
