    About the Event

    Abstracts for presentation are invited for the Workshop on Coatings for the Medical Device Industry to be held Tuesday, November 6, 2018. This workshop is sponsored by ASTM Committee F04 on Medical and Surgical Materials and Devices and will be held at the Washington Hilton in Washington, DC, in conjunction with the November standards development meetings of Committee F04.

    Objective and Scope This workshop is designed to discuss and strategize about upcoming needs in the development of coatings for the medical industry. An intended outcome is a strategy for developing coatings standards and specifications that will augment the pending ISO TC 150 coatings document (ISO 17327).

    Planned sessions for this workshop include:

    • Introduction to Coatings and ISO 17327
    • Coatings for soft tissue interfaces
    • Coatings for hard tissue interfaces
    • Coatings for blood tissue interfaces
    • Path forward

    Online registration is now open and closes October 31, 2018. The fees to attend this workshop are listed below.

    All Attendees – All attendees, including presenters and ASTM members, must register for this event. If you do not register online by the closing date, then you must register at the ASTM registration desk before attending the workshop. All attendees must check in at the ASTM registration desk to pick up their name badge prior to entering the workshop.

    Students – A student’s fee is waived, provided he/she is a full-time student and is not employed full time. After registering online, the student must check in at the ASTM Registration Desk on site and present his/her student ID.

    Cancellation

    Hotel Information

    All committee meetings will be held at the Washington Hilton, 1919 Connecticut Ave., NW, Washington, DC, 20009.

    Hotel Reservations: Staying at our contracted hotel is important to ASTM, to the hotel where we are holding this meeting, and ultimately to you as an ASTM member. When you reserve a guest room at another hotel and an ASTM contracted room goes unsold, ASTM is liable and must pay a non-performance penalty fee to the hotel. Please support ASTM by reserving your sleeping room at our official hotel. Reservations may be made via the hotel's online reservation system at Washington Hilton. One night's room and tax deposit is required to confirm a reservation.

    The discounted rate will be honored until the ASTM block is full, but no later than October 1st, 2018. ASTM rates are $187 plus tax. You may be charged a higher rate if reservations are received after the cut-off date, or when the block is full. The hotel requires a credit card to guarantee your reservation, once submitted a confirmation number will be provided electronically.

    The Washington Hilton has a limited number of rooms at the government per diem rate. Reservations may be made via the hotel's online reservation system at Washington Hilton Government Reservations. You must present your ID at the front desk upon check-in.

    IMPORTANT! ASTM Rates are non-commissionable. If you book your reservation through a travel agent, they must ask for a non-commissioned ASTM Group Rate. ASTM cannot adjust your higher rate if commissions were paid to a travel agency.

    INTERNET: The Washington Hilton offers a complimentary basic wireless connection in the guest rooms with the ASTM group rate.

    CANCELLATION/CHANGE POLICY: At the Washington Hilton, notice of cancellation must be received 72 hours prior to day of arrival in order to avoid a charge. Failure to do so will incure a penalty equal to the cost of one night's room and tax.

    ASTM MEMBERS WORK AREA: ASTM will provide computers with internet connections. This area will also be wireless for your laptop computer. You may visit the ASTM website, apply or renew your membership, order publications or check your email. The complimentary wireless service is limited to the members' work area and the meeting rooms.

    Dress and Weather

    Attendees have the option to determine their dress at ASTM meetings. Business casual attire is acceptable at this meeting and appropriate for Washington DC. The average temperatures in November range from a high of 59 degrees Fahrenheit to a low of 38 degrees Fahrenheit.
