In light of COVID-19 (coronavirus) and our priority for the health and welfare of our members and staff, ASTM International has decided that it is inadvisable and impractical to hold the committee meetings in Prague on April 27-May 1. The decision was based on several factors, including, but not limited to:
Staff managers will be contacting committee leaders to plan alternatives for conducting committee business. For any committees that collected money for events, ASTM will work to issue refunds as necessary. Attendees are responsible for cancelling their own hotel reservations.
Looking forward, we will rely on these and other relevant criteria and input points to assess the status of future scheduled ASTM meetings and events. Please consult our meeting webpage for the most up-to-date information. Thank you for your understanding and continued commitment to ASTM International.
Title: Symposium on Balancing Resiliency, Safety and Sustainability
Dates: Friday October 13 2017
Location: Sheraton New Orleans; New Orleans, LA
Event Name: October 2017 Committee Week
The Symposium on Balancing Resiliency, Safety, and Sustainability will be held Friday, October 13, 2017. Sponsored by ASTM Committee E60 on Sustainability, the symposium will be held at the Sheraton New Orleans in New Orleans, LA, in conjunction with the October standards development meetings of the committee.
Ultimately, the most-sustainable structures are those that are functional the longest. Buildings designed to withstand man-made or natural disasters will be more durable, send less waste to the landfills, and will be able to operate sooner (if not continually) after the event occurs. This concept—increasing durability, reducing waste, and safeguarding occupants—is fundamental to sustainable design. The symposium provides a forum for contributing to the fundamental understanding of contributions of materials and systems to the resiliency and safety of the built environment and its relationship to sustainability.
The symposium is intended to address topics related to resiliency, safety, and sustainability and the built environment including the following:
