In light of COVID-19 (coronavirus) and our priority for the health and welfare of our members and staff, ASTM International has decided that it is inadvisable and impractical to hold the committee meetings in Prague on April 27-May 1. The decision was based on several factors, including, but not limited to:

    • Continued review of information and recommendations from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO) and other governmental bodies.
    • Input from our members whose organizations are increasingly concerned with travel and the large gathering in Prague.
    • Watching the expanding trajectory of the coronavirus.

    Staff managers will be contacting committee leaders to plan alternatives for conducting committee business. For any committees that collected money for events, ASTM will work to issue refunds as necessary. Attendees are responsible for cancelling their own hotel reservations.

    Looking forward, we will rely on these and other relevant criteria and input points to assess the status of future scheduled ASTM meetings and events.     E35 Pesticides, Antimicrobials, and Alternative Control Agents

    About the Event

    A Workshop on The Role of Indoor Air as a Vehicle for Human Pathogens will be held Wednesday, April 13. Sponsored by ASTM Committee E35 on Pesticides, Antimicrobials and Alternative Control Agents, the workshop will be held at the Grand Hyatt San Antonio in San Antonio, TX, in conjunction with the April standards development meetings of the committee.

    The mounting appreciation of indoor air as a vehicle for infectious agents is leading government agencies (e.g., the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency) to update and refine their guidelines for regulatory purposes, civil engineers and architects are interested in innovative means of making indoor air in domestic as well as work settings safer while conserving energy. While test protocols exist to study the spread of chemical pollutants and allergens via air, there continues to be a general lack of suitable experimental facilities to quantitatively assess pathogen survival in air and also their removal/inactivation by physical and chemical means.

    This workshop has been developed to provide a forum for the exchange of ideas on current research on the role of indoor air in the spread of human pathogens with particular emphasis on protocols to study airborne microbial survival, modelling of microbial movements in indoor air, and technologies for indoor air decontamination. The deliberations will also focus on the development of standards for assessing indoor air decontamination technologies as well as government regulations for registration of products to be marketed.

    Students – A student's fee is waived, provided that he/she is a full-time student and is not employed full time.     Attendees have the option to determine their dress at ASTM meetings. Business casual attire is acceptable at this meeting and appropriate for San Antonio. The average temperatures in April range from a high of 81 degrees to a low of 58 degrees.
