In light of COVID-19 (coronavirus) and our priority for the health and welfare of our members and staff, ASTM International has decided that it is inadvisable and impractical to hold the committee meetings in Prague on April 27-May 1. The decision was based on several factors, including, but not limited to:
Staff managers will be contacting committee leaders to plan alternatives for conducting committee business. For any committees that collected money for events, ASTM will work to issue refunds as necessary. Attendees are responsible for cancelling their own hotel reservations.
Looking forward, we will rely on these and other relevant criteria and input points to assess the status of future scheduled ASTM meetings and events. Please consult our meeting webpage for the most up-to-date information. Thank you for your understanding and continued commitment to ASTM International.
Title: POSTPONED Workshop on Weathering of Geosynthetics
Dates: Wednesday July 01 2020
Location: Boston Marriott Copley Place; Boston, MA
Event Name: CANCELED June 2020 Committee Week
Due to the coronavirus outbreak, this event has been postponed. New dates have not yet been determined.
The Workshop on Weathering of Geosynthetics will be held Wednesday, July 1, 2020. Sponsored by ASTM Committee D35.02 on Geosynthetics Endurance Properties, the workshop will be held at the Boston Marriott Copley Place in Boston, MA, in conjunction with the June standards development meetings of the committee.
Objective and Scope
Geosynthetics may be exposed to the sun over the course of their life: during storage, shipping and/or construction, or for extended duration, by design. During that time, they will be exposed to weathering and are consequently formulated to resist UV- and heat-induced oxidation. The performance of these formulations has historically been controlled using either fluorescent or xenon arc laboratory exposure. Both methods provide an index value, however, the relation between laboratory exposure and field exposure is not fully understood and remains somehow controversial.
The goal of this workshop is to bring new ideas into ASTM Committee D35, that could lead to an evolution toward more modern, accurate testing techniques for weathering resistance. A review of existing practices, standards and specifications will be presented. Case studies depicting typical short- and long-term exposure of geosynthetic materials will be described.
Recent advances in testing techniques will be introduced. A discussion between speakers will complete the workshop.
Registration information will be posted at a later date.
For more information about the standards development meetings of committee D35 you may contact the ASTM Staff Manager, Katerina Koperna at firstname.lastname@example.org or tel: +1 610-832-9728.
Committee D35 invites you to attend their future standards development meetings. There is no fee to attend these meetings, and membership in ASTM International is not required. For more information about future D35 meetings, please visit D35 Future Meetings.
