    About the Event

    The Workshop on Detection Limits without Noise will be held Thursday, April 2, 2020 from 8:00am-12:00pm. This workshop is sponsored by ASTM Committee D22 on Air Quality and will be held at the Marriott Copley Place in Boston, MA, in conjunction with the April standards development meetings of Committee D22.

    Objective and Scope

    This workshop will provide an opportunity for those working with certain instruments, such as mass spectrometers, to discuss ways of calculating detection limits when the instruments do not have appreciable noise.

    Topics for this workshop may include:
    • Traditional Approaches to Detection Limits and Their Shortcomings
    • How are Noiseless Detectors Even Possible? Current State of the Art
    • Re-Defining Detection Limits in a Noiseless World
    • Current Solutions
    • Opportunity for Standards

    Continuing Education Units

    Workshop attendees interested in receiving 0.35 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) must complete the CEU application form in the back of the program booklet and submit it to an ASTM staff member on site. You must be registered and have attended the entire workshop in order to receive the CEU’s. A certificate will be sent to the attendee approximately 4 to 6 weeks after the workshop.

    Hotel Information

    All meetings will be held at Boston Marriott Copley Place, 110 Huntington Ave, Boston MA 02116.

    Hotel Reservations: The April Committee Week hotel provides prime meeting space for your committee meetings, events and activities. ASTM International is legally bound to fill the contracted guest room block and an inability to fill the block will result in severe financial penalties which could affect negotiations and increase costs for future meetings.     The discounted rate will be honored until the ASTM block is full, but no later than February 27th, 2020. The ASTM rate is $209 plus tax. You may be charged a higher rate if reservations are received after the cut-off date, or when the block is full. The hotel requires a major credit card to guarantee your reservation, once submitted a confirmation number will be provided electronically.

    IMPORTANT! ASTM Rates are non-commissionable. If you book your reservation through a travel agent, they must ask for a non-commissioned ASTM Group Rate. ASTM cannot adjust your higher rate if commissions were paid to a travel agency.

    INTERNET: The Boston Marriott Copley Place offers complimentary in-room Wi-fi for all guests under the ASTM group rate.

    CANCELLATION/CHANGE POLICY: At The Boston Marriott Copley Place, notice of cancellation must be received 72 hours before your arrival day, in order to avoid incurring one night's room and tax penalty charge.

    PUBLIC TRANSIT: The most convenient transit option to the Boston Marriott Copley Place, from the Boston Logan International Airport is to travel using the Logan Express bus service. The Logan Express will pick-up and drop off travelers from terminals A, B, C and E. From the terminal you will take the Back Bay bus route. The station closest to the Boston Marriott Copley Place is the Back Bay stop, about a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Cost per ticket is $3.     TAXI: Taxis in Boston are available for curbside pick-up at the Boston Logan International Airport, located in all terminals. There are various Taxi companies in the Boston area to choose from.     Dress and Weather

    Attendees have the option to determine their dress at ASTM meetings. Business casual attire is acceptable at this meeting and appropriate for Boston. The average temperatures in April range from a high of 57 degrees Fahrenheit to a low of 41 degrees Fahrenheit.
