In light of COVID-19 (coronavirus) and our priority for the health and welfare of our members and staff, ASTM International has decided that it is inadvisable and impractical to hold the committee meetings in Prague on April 27-May 1. The decision was based on several factors, including, but not limited to:
Staff managers will be contacting committee leaders to plan alternatives for conducting committee business. For any committees that collected money for events, ASTM will work to issue refunds as necessary. Attendees are responsible for cancelling their own hotel reservations.
Looking forward, we will rely on these and other relevant criteria and input points to assess the status of future scheduled ASTM meetings and events. Please consult our meeting webpage for the most up-to-date information. Thank you for your understanding and continued commitment to ASTM International.
Title: 2020 ASTM Johnson/Rook Conference on Asbestos
Dates: Monday August 02 2021 - Friday August 06 2021
Location: DoubleTree by Hilton; Burlington, VT
Since 1986, the Johnson Conferences have served as forums for the discussion of asbestos issues. Held in the beautiful summers of northern Vermont, the Johnson Conference is being renamed the “Johnson/Rook Conference” in honor of Dr. Harry S. Rook, chair of the first eight Johnson Conferences.
To encourage forthright presentations and discussions of novel ideas and controversial issues, the Johnson/Rook Conferences have a tradition of no recordings, reports, or publications. As such, these conferences have generated lively exchanges of ideas that have shaped many of the asbestos monitoring methods and strategies used today. While the tradition of no recording will be maintained at this Johnson/Rook Conference, the publication of full papers will be encouraged for an issue of ASTM’s Selected Technical Papers (STP), an online and printed, peer-reviewed publication for the international scientific and engineering community, to be published after the meeting following peer-review of the manuscripts through the ASTM formal review process.
ScopeDetection, reporting, risk assessment, and regulation of asbestos and other fibrous minerals is as relevant today as when the first Johnson Conference was held. Abstracts that deal with these topics on a regional, national, or international level are solicited for the 2020 Johnson/Rook Conference.
Presentation topics include, but are not limited to the following:
Professionals and laypersons with established as well as developing interests in asbestos who want to be informed of the latest information on asbestos issues will find this conference to be especially rewarding. This includes environmental consultants, laboratory analysts and managers, industrial hygienists, building owners, epidemiologists, toxicologists, land use planners and regulators, and federal, state, and local government officials responsible for making and reviewing decisions based on the findings of these studies.
The language of the conference will be English.
