In light of COVID-19 (coronavirus) and our priority for the health and welfare of our members and staff, ASTM International has decided that it is inadvisable and impractical to hold the committee meetings in Prague on April 27-May 1. The decision was based on several factors, including, but not limited to:
Staff managers will be contacting committee leaders to plan alternatives for conducting committee business. For any committees that collected money for events, ASTM will work to issue refunds as necessary. Attendees are responsible for cancelling their own hotel reservations.
Looking forward, we will rely on these and other relevant criteria and input points to assess the status of future scheduled ASTM meetings and events. Please consult our meeting webpage for the most up-to-date information. Thank you for your understanding and continued commitment to ASTM International.
Title: Workshop on Sampling and Analytic Advances in Formaldehyde and Other Carbonyl Compounds’ Determination in Air
Dates: Thursday April 12 2018
Location: Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina; San Diego, CA
Event Name: April 2018 Committee Week
The Workshop on Sampling and Analytic Advances in Formaldehyde and Other Carbonyl Compounds’ Determination in Air will be held Thursday, April 12, 2018. Sponsored by ASTM Committee D22 on Air Quality, the workshop will be held at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel & Marina in San Diego, CA, in conjunction with the April standards development meetings of the committee.
The determination of formaldehyde (HCHO) and other carbonyl compounds (aldehydes and ketones) in air is described in ASTM D5197. This standard test method determines the formaldehyde and other carbonyl compounds concentrations in air by capture and derivatization onto silica gel coated 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine (DNPH) cartridges followed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) separation and UV-based detection. Although recently revised, the method has a long and established history, and it is also an often used and cited standard.
There have been technological advancements since the ASTM D5197 standard was first introduced; hence, there is a need for review and consideration of alternative carbonyl measurement technologies. This workshop will include presentations and discussion on alternative sampling and analytic strategies, and aims to produce a path to a revision of ASTM D5197 or promulgate alternative sampling and analytic standard test methods.
A technical program (presentation times, paper titles, and presenters’ names) will be posted on the ASTM website by mid-January 2018.
Online registration is now open and will close April 4th, 2018
A student’s fee is waived, provided that he/she is a full-time student and is not employed full time. After registering online, the student must check in at the ASTM Registration Desk on site and present his/her student ID.
