In light of COVID-19 (coronavirus) and our priority for the health and welfare of our members and staff, ASTM International has decided that it is inadvisable and impractical to hold the committee meetings in Prague on April 27-May 1. The decision was based on several factors, including, but not limited to:

    • Continued review of information and recommendations from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO) and other governmental bodies.
    • Input from our members whose organizations are increasingly concerned with travel and the large gathering in Prague.
    • Watching the expanding trajectory of the coronavirus.

Staff managers will be contacting committee leaders to plan alternatives for conducting committee business. For any committees that collected money for events, ASTM will work to issue refunds as necessary. Attendees are responsible for cancelling their own hotel reservations.

Looking forward, we will rely on these and other relevant criteria and input points to assess the status of future scheduled ASTM meetings and events. Please consult our meeting webpage for the most up-to-date information. Thank you for your understanding and continued commitment to ASTM International.

    D10 Packaging

    About the Event

Ensuring that products arrive at their destination undamaged and safe to use while maximizing economics and minimizing environmental impacts is challenging. This workshop will provide packaging professionals an opportunity to explore the factors that go into evaluating and predicting successful packaging performance. Participants will be provided with an update on the changes occurring to ASTM D4169 to better align it with current distribution environments. The challenges of single parcel shipments will also be explored. Insight will be provided into the use of cushioning materials to improve outcomes. The workshop will dive into the interaction between packaging distribution simulation and package integrity and then explore the many options for evaluating integrity. This will be proceeded by a discussion on choosing the optimum minimum seal strength for primary packaging. The FDA will weigh in with a regulatory perspective and the US Army will provide a roadmap for military packaging and MIL specs.

The Workshop will take place on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 and will run from 8:00 am to 2:45pm. Scheduled between the D10 and F02 Committee meetings, its designed to provide insight and value to individuals across the range of packaging functions. See below for the full workshop program.
