Max Hecht Award - Guidelines


    The Max Hecht Award is presented not more frequently than once a year to a member of Committee D19 on Water of at least three years standing, who has performed outstanding work in the committee or in the field of water. The Award, established in 1954, honors Max Hecht, first Chairman of Committee D19.


    The award shall be administered by an Awards Task Group consisting of three members of Committee D19 appointed for three-year staggered terms. An appointment shall be made annually by the Chairman of Committee D19. The senior member of the Award's Group shall serve as Chairman.

    Each year the Award Task Group shall consider the eligibility of committee members for the award. The Award Group may nominate candidates or request the committee to nominate a candidate by secret ballot.

    If in the opinion of the Award Group no person is worthy of the award, none shall be given that year.

    The Award Group shall select the recipient and shall notify the secretary of Committee D19 no later than three months prior to the time of the presentation, the notification to include (a) name and address of recipient, (b) form of the award, and (c) other recommendations regarding the award.

    The Secretary of Committee D19 shall advise the Awards Administrator of the Society of its decision two months prior to the time of presentation, and the Awards Administrator shall notify the recipient that he has been selected by Committee D19 to receive the Max Hecht Award established by that committee, on behalf of the Chairman of the Board.

    The Award Task Group shall cooperate with the secretary of Committee D19 and with the Awards Administrator of the Society in arrangements for securing and presenting the award.

    The presentation of the award shall be made at an appropriate meeting of Committee D19, by an officer of the Society or of Committee D19.

    Committee D19 shall have authority to decide any questions not specifically covered by these rules, and the rules may be modified upon recommendation of the Award Task Group.


    The Max Hecht Award shall consist of a certificate mounted on a walnut Plexiglas plaque. The award shall not include a cash honorarium but a suitable token may be selected by the Awards Task Group.
