    PREREGISTRATION

    You must be registered to attend ASTM Meetings. Use our online registration form where you have the ability to register for multiple events, pay fees in advance using a credit card, and receive an electronic confirmation. You may register online at the "Register" link above.

    When you preregister online, you will receive emails on committee meetings, final announcements, and other information that will help you prepare for your meeting. The registration information significantly assists us in preparations for the committee week.

    The cut-off for preregistration is Wednesday, May 03, 2017. After this date please register on-site at the ASTM Registration Desk at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel.


    MEETING LOCATION

    CANADIAN CURRENCY AND BANKING: Currency in Canada is in dollars and cents, as in the United States. Due to current monetary exchange rates, there is a slight difference in value between the Canadian Dollar and the American Dollar. Although U.S. money is usually accepted in Canada, we suggest that you exchange it for Canadian Dollars at any ATM machine located throughout the city or at the airport, or use your credit card for any purchases while in the city. You may check daily for the current excahnge rate: Exchange Rate. Most U.S. credit cards are honored in Canada. Any charge to a credit card will reflect the bank exchange rate.

    The Sheraton Centre's Front Desk will be happy to assist guests with currency exchange transactions with no surcharge. Please note that they are unable to exchange coins.

    ENTRY INTO CANADA AND U.S.: If you are from the United States, the following instructions may apply to you:

    U.S. Citizens traveling to Canada are required to show U.S. Government-issued photo ID and proof of U.S. citizenship, such as a birth certificate; however, U.S. law requires that Americans entering the U.S. from Canada must have a valid passport. For more information please visit Canada Border Services Agency.

    If you are from a country other than the U.S. and are not a U.S. citizen or legal, permanent resident of the U.S., you need a valid passport or travel document. Citizens of some countries also need visas to enter Canada. Visitors should ask about visa requirements and valid travel documents at the Canadian embassy, consulate, or mission in their home countries before departure.

    We recommend you carry a valid passport for all travel abroad, including visits to Canada from the United States. A passport my be required by your airline or alternative transportation authority, as it is the only universally-accepted identification document.

    ENTRY BY PRIVATE MOTOR VEHICLE: In Canada, U.S. state drivers' licenses are valid for varying periods of time, depending on the province or territory you are visiting. For more information, please visit Entry into Canada by Land.

    TAXES: Harmonized Sale Tax (HST) is a 13% (HST) tax that is charged on most goods and services.

    LETTER OF INVITATION: The ASTM Committee Week meetings are officially registered with the Canadian Border Services Agency. If you require a letter of invitation from ASTM and Canada, email Annika Huffman at ahuffman@astm.org.

    CUSTOMS BROKERAGE AND TRANSPORTATION SERVICES: We have designated Mendelssohn Event Logistics as our event's official customs broker and transportation service provider. If you are shipping any materials or equipment to the meeting hotel, please be sure to contact Mendelssohn Event Logistics directly for assistance. They will arrange transportation and customs brokerage of your materials to ensure a seamless transition through Canada Customs.     HOTEL INFORMATION

    All meetings will be held at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel,123 Queen Street West Toronto, Ontario M5H 2M9, Canada. Reservations may be made via our online reservation system at Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel Reservations.

    Select your dates and proceed as instructed. Reservations may also be made by telephoning the hotel at (416)361-1000 or 1-800-325-3535 (you must mention ASTM May 2017 in order to receive the group rate). If you need assistance with your hotel reservation, please call the hotel directly.

    Group rate will be honored until the ASTM block is full but no later than April 10, 2017. ASTM rates are $188 (US) plus tax. You may be charged a higher rate if reservations are received after the cut-off date, or when the block is full.The hotel requires a credit card to guarantee your reservation, once submitted a confirmation number will be provided electronically.

    IMPORTANT! ASTM Rates are non-commissionable. If you book your reservation through a travel agent, they must ask for a non-commissioned ASTM Group Rate. ASTM cannot adjust your higher rate if commissions were paid to a travel agency.

    CANCELLATION/CHANGE POLICY: At the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel, notice of cancellation must be received 24 hours prior to day of arrival in order to avoid a charge.

    INTERNET: The hotel offers complimentary wireless connections in the guest rooms for SPG Members.

    ASTM MEMBERS WORK AREA: ASTM will provide computers with internet connections. This area will also be wireless for your laptop computer. You may visit the ASTM website, apply or renew your membership, order publications or check your email. The complimentary wireless service is limited to the members' work area and the meeting rooms.

    AIRPORT SHUTTLE SERVICE:

  • Shuttle transportation to and from the Toronto Pearson International Airport is available for a fee by a variety of Shuttle and Bus Services. Reservations are required. To make a reservation online, visit Toronto Pearson International Airport Out-of-Town Shuttle. Taxis cost approximately $46 one way.
  • UP Express (Train from Airport to City): Union Pearson Express (UP Express) connects Canada’s two busiest transportation hubs: Toronto Pearson International Airport and Union Station in downtown Toronto. UP Express trains depart every 15 minutes and the journey takes just 25 minutes. First train departs Pearson Station at 05:27 and last train at 00:57. The one-way adult fare between Toronto Pearson International Airport and downtown Toronto is $12.00. The UP Pearson Station is located right beside the blue Link Train at Terminal 1, connecting travellers to Terminal 3. For more information, visit www.upexpress.com

    PARKING: The hotel provides valet parking at a cost of 50 CAD daily.


    ASTM TRAINING SESSIONS

    ASTM staff will provide several training sessions on various subjects to educate and assist officers, members and non-members of ASTM committees. The following topics will be discussed:

  • International Participant Orientation (Monday) 12:00pm - 1:00pm

    Meeting attendees are cordially invited to a special welcome and orientation session centered on international participants. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet other international meeting participants, including ASTM Chairman of the Board,Thomas Marsh. This session will provide a very brief introduction to ASTM, its activities, process, electronic tools and international outreach that connect you to ASTM's global network of experts and information. There will also be ample time to ask any questions. Facilitated by ASTM staff, this session provides new and experienced international members and visitors a chance to connect at the beginning of the Committee Week.

  • ASTM Learning- Expert Online, Live & Mobile Learning Solutions (Monday-Tuesday) 12:00pm-1:00pm

    Do you have questions about the types of training services offered by ASTM International? If so, this session is for you. During this one hour presentation, we will overview the benefits of our training program and how our industry leading products help solve customer problems in the environmental market. We will also discuss the 2017 roadmap for new development, product enhancements and features. There will also be 15 minutes reserved for Q & A and requests.

  • Registering a Work Item and Launching a Collaboration Area (Tuesday) 12:00pm-1:00pm

    This module will review the steps required to register a Work Item, elaborating on what a Work Item is in ASTM. Next, the session will explore the ASTM Collaboration Area. ASTM Staff will address how to launch a Collaboration Area, upload documents to the site, invite new members to the Collaboration Area, as well as highlighting other functionalities of the Collaboration Area.

  • Developing and Revising an ASTM Standard (Wednesday) 12:00pm-1:00pm

    During this joint Technical Committee Operations and Editorial module, we will review both new and revised standards as they go through the development and publication process. We will cover how standard ideas are introduced, drafted,and publicized as well as review ASTM's electronic tools and time-tested techniques for accelerating the development of your standard. Included in the workshop will be a brief review of work items registration, the three stages of balloting, and an explanation of the key roles of your editor and the standard’s technical contact.

  • Refreshments will be available at all sessions.

    COMMITTEE ACTIVITY FEES

    Several ASTM committees collect a voluntary fee to support activities associated within the committee such as awards, social events, etc. Each committee determines the amount and encourages your contribution. The activity fee can be paid online in advance on the preregistration page. This voluntary contribution is not an ASTM International society fee.


    SPECIAL ACTIVITY

    Several committees hold planned banquet events. You have the ability to purchase your tickets online in advance on the preregistration page. Your tickets will be available on-site at the Registration Area.



    COMPLIMENTARY SUPPORT SERVICES

    ASTM meetings offer on-site services from the ASTM staff. We provide photocopying service, audio/visual equipment, and a members' work area with complimentary internet computers. We also have an editor on-site to assist you with the form and style of standards, editorial changes and first drafts of standards.

    CERTIFICATES OF ATTENDANCE - Certificates of Attendance are available to all attendees. You can retrieve a copy on-line and there are copies at the ASTM registration desk. Please take this completed document to the ASTM registration desk for a Stamp of Approval.


    ANNUAL MEETING BREAKFAST

    ASTM ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING - Join your elected officers and staff for a continental breakfast on Wednesday at 7:00am sharp at the Sheraton Centre Toronto. At this breakfast, you will hear an update on ASTM and have an opportunity to ask questions or share your comments. You may pick up your ticket at the ASTM Registration Desk.


    SPOUSES' HOSPITALITY

    Join us for coffee and breakfast pastries Monday through Thursday from 8:30am to 9:30am at the Shertaon Centre Toronto Hotel.     DRESS/WEATHER

    Attendees have the option to determine their dress at ASTM meetings. Business casual attire is acceptable at this meeting and appropriate for Toronto. The average temperatures in May range from a high of 62 degrees fahrenheit to a low of 43 degrees fahrenheit.
