3/3/2020 - ASTM International has been closely monitoring the unfolding situation with COVID-19/Coronavirus. We are closely following the direction given by the US State Department as it relates to travel. Based on information available now, our Spring Committee Weeks in Boston will be held. Our registration numbers for the April Boston Committee week are quite strong. Of course, a significant escalation of events in the US, particularly Massachusetts, could impact attendance or cause us to take different action. Similarly, other ASTM meetings in the US are expected to be held. We are still evaluating the Committee Week meetings planned for Prague at the end of April. We will keep you informed as we receive additional information and make any changes with our scheduled meetings.

    TRANSPORATION SECURITY ADMINISTRATION (TSA): Long airport lines are making headlines. The TSA is working with the airports and airlines to speed up the check points. Get to the airport extremely early, plan your travel and routinely check for updates and boarding information. You can easily check by downloading the MyTSA app on either Apple or Google Play.

    AIRPORT SHUTTLE SERVICE: Shuttle transportation to and from the Chicago Midway International Airport and O'Hare International Airport is available for a fee by Go Airport Express between 6:00 AM and 11:30 PM, daily.     PARKING: ROW Parking Garage is located at 50 E. Ohio Street, Chicago, IL, 60611 providing $61 valet parking and $46 self-parking. You will need to enter the parking garage address and it will list various prices, depending on how many hours they will need to be parked.


    ASTM staff will provide several training sessions on various subjects to educate and assist officers, members, and non-members of ASTM committees. The following topics will be discussed:

  • International Member Orientation Training Module (Monday) 7:00am-8:00am

    This module is intended to welcome and introduce International Members to ASTM International and the ASTM process. The module will consist of a brief introduction of the history of ASTM, ASTM activities in the International Standards Community and to discuss frequently asked questions regarding ASTM meetings and the ASTM standards development process. The hope is to attract new members as well as existing members to share in an exchange of information about ASTM International. The module will be facilitated by ASTM Staff.

  • Writing, Handling and Resolving Negative Votes (Tuesday) 12:00pm-1:00pm

    This session will discuss how to write an effective negative, how the committees should address negative votes, and how to resolve negative votes using the Online Negative Resolution Tool in the MyASTM section of the ASTM website. Additionally, you will be exposed to the roles that the subcommittee chairs, technical contacts, and ASTM Staff play throughout this process.

  • Developing and Revising an ASTM Standard (Wednesday) 12:00pm-1:00pm

    During this joint Technical Committee Operations and Editorial module, we will review both new and revised standards as they go through the development and publication process. We will cover how standard ideas are introduced, drafted,and publicized, as well as review ASTM's electronic tools and time-tested techniques for accelerating the development of your standard. Included in the workshop will be a brief review of work items registration, the three stages of balloting, and an explanation of the key roles of your editor and the standard's technical contact.

  • Workshop: Introduction to the Interlaboratory Study Program (ILS)
    Wednesday, 12:00pm - 1:00pm

    This module is designed to familiarize members with the ILS Program, its features, benefits, capabilities, and the online registration process. Research Reports will also be specifically addressed during the session. This workshop will benefit anyone planning to run (or participate in) an interlaboratory study to generate a precision statement for a new or existing ASTM test method. Presented by Phillip Godorov and Caitlin Farrell, ASTM ILS Staff.

  • In addition to the ILS Workshop schedule above, several ILS Q&A Sessions have been planned with ASTM ILS Staff. Please feel free to drop by and ask questions about, or brainstorm ideas for, your upcoming interlaboratory studies. ILS Representatives will also be available to review the status of your current interlaboratory studies and help you plan the next steps. Sessions are open to all, and no appointments are needed.

    Several ASTM committees collect a voluntary fee to support activities associated within the committee such as awards, social events, etc. Each committee determines the amount and encourages your contribution. The activity fee can be paid online in advance on the preregistration page. This voluntary contribution is not an ASTM International society fee.


    Several committees hold planned banquet events. You have the ability to purchase your tickets online in advance on the preregistration page. Your tickets will be available on-site at the Registration Area.


    ASTM meetings offer on-site services from the ASTM staff. We provide photocopying service, audio/visual equipment, and a members' work area with complimentary internet computers. We also have an editor on-site to assist you with the form and style of standards, editorial changes and first drafts of standards.


    ASTM ANNUAL BUSINESS MEETING - Join your elected officers and staff for a continental breakfast on Wednesday at 7:00am sharp at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile. At this breakfast, you will hear an update on ASTM and have an opportunity to ask questions or share your comments. You may pick up your ticket at the ASTM Registration Desk.


    Join us for coffee and breakfast pastries Monday through Thursday from 8:30am to 9:30am at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile. A representative from the Chicago Convention and Tourism Bureau will be on hand with information on what to see and do in Chicago.     Attendees have the option to determine their dress at ASTM meetings. Business casual attire is acceptable at this meeting and appropriate for Chicago. The average temperatures in June range from a high of 85 degrees to a low of 66 degrees.
