    ASTM TRAINING SESSIONS

    ASTM staff will provide several training sessions on various subjects to educate and assist officers, members and non-members of ASTM committees. The following topics will be discussed:

  • The Sydney D. Andrews Scroll Achievement Award Luncheon
    Tuesday, December 10th, 12:00pm - 1:30pm

    The Sydney D. Andrews Scroll Achievement Award will be presented to Randy Hoy at a luncheon. Please register online in advance of the meeting or onsite at the Registration desk. The cost is $35 per person.

  • ASTM Training Session: Understanding Test Method Precision, Bias, ILS Design, Statistical Quality Control Charts, and TIER III SQC Requirements
    Saturday, December 7th, 8:30am - 4:30pm

    This one-day seminar will present an overview on test method precision, bias, ILS design, and statistical control charts. ASTM repeatability, reproducibility, intermediate precision, and bias will be discussed, along with ASTM D6300 ILS design requirements to establish r, R, and critical success factors. Test method "in-statistical-control" concept will be discussed along with control chart work process and tools per ASTM D6299. The seminar will wrap up with a brief discussion on EPA Tier III SQC requirements, followed by a general Q&A. Registration Required, click to register: Registration.

  • Workshop: Committee D02 Member Orientation
    Monday, 7:00am - 8:00am

    This orientation will include an overview of ASTM and the organization and structure of D02. Learn about your role and responsibilities as a new D02 member. There will be an opportunity to ask questions. All members, especially new members and visitors are encouraged to attend. The orientation will be presented by Greg Miiller, Committee D02 First Vice-Chairman.

  • Training Module: ASTM-EI Joint Standards Comparison Reports
    Monday, 12:00pm - 1:00pm

    Recently taken on the role of reviewing or balloting a joint ASTM-EI standard? This training module will provide an overview of the duties and responsibilities of task group leaders and technical contacts, as well as help you navigate the ASTM and EI documentation, systems and various tools available to assist with your standards review work. The module will be presented by ASTM and Energy Institute Staff.

  • D02 Tuesday Evening Seminar on Statistics: Outliers... how to identify them
    Tuesday, 5:30-6:30pm

    This introductory seminar will present an overview of common outlier identification techniques, followed by a simple coverage of a robust and effective technique for dealing with multiple outliers simultaneously. The presentation will focus on ASTM D7915 Practice for Application of Generalized Extreme Studentized Deviate (GESD) Technique to Simultaneously Identify Multiple Outliers in a Data Set. This module will be presented by Alex Lau, Chairman of D02.94 on Quality Assurance and Statistics.

  • Workshop: D02 Member Open Forum and Q&A Session
    Wednesday, 7:00am - 8:00am

    Meeting attendees are cordially invited to a special welcome and orientation session centered on welcoming all member participants, experienced and brand new! Attendees will have the opportunity to meet other ASTM International meetings participants. This session will provide a very brief introduction to ASTM, its activities, process, electronic tools and international outreach that connect you to ASTM's global network of experts and information. There will also be ample time to ask any questions. This session provides new and experienced members and visitors a chance to connect at the Committee Week. This seminar will be presented by ASTM Staff.

  • ASTM Staff Support Question and Answer Sessions
    ASTM Registration Desk

    Stop by and find ASTM Staff ready to assist with all questions. Staff will provide members (new and experienced) with an opportunity to ask questions about ASTM systems and services. Members have access to electronic tools that facilitate your participation at any place, at any time. These tools prepare you for meetings, keep you informed, provide technical contact information, and ultimately enable your input to the consensus process. Staff will be on hand to "show you around" the website, provide information on registering work items, work item collaboration areas, submitting ballot items and online negative ballot resolutions, or simply help with administrative issues. Editorial Staff will also be available to provide assistance. Please feel free to drop in and ask questions!

  • Workshop: Introduction to the Interlaboratory Study Program (ILS)
    Monday, 12:00pm - 1:00pm

    This module is designed to familiarize members with the ILS Program, its features, benefits, capabilities, and the online registration process. Research Reports will also be specifically addressed during the session. This workshop will benefit anyone planning to run (or participate in) an interlaboratory study to generate a precision statement for a new or existing ASTM test method. Presented by ASTM ILS Staff.

  • Interlaboratory Studies (ILS) Question and Answer Sessions
    Monday-Wednesday, 8:00am-10:00am and 3:00-5:00pm

    In addition to the ILS Workshop schedule above, several ILS Q&A Sessions have been planned with ASTM ILS Staff. Please feel free to drop by and ask questions about, or brainstorm ideas for, your upcoming interlaboratory studies. ILS representatives will also be available to review the status of your current interlaboratory studies and help you plan the next steps. Sessions are open to all, and no appointments are needed.

  • Translated Services for Standards
    Tuesday, 4:00pm - 5:00pm

    As a global standards development organization, ASTM International realizes how critical it is to provide our technical content in multiple languages. As such, ASTM has begun to offer translated versions of ASTM content and services.

    This training session will provide an overview of the latest ASTM D02 standard translations included in the ASTM Spanish Standards Petroleum Collection and ASTM Portuguese Petroleum Standards Collection. The training will review how to locate and access the translated standards on ASTM Compass. The session will wrap up with a preview of the planned translations for the next calendar year.


    PREREGISTRATION

    You must be registered to attend ASTM Meetings. Use our online registration form where you have the ability to register for multiple events, pay fees in advance using a credit card, and receive an electronic confirmation. You may register online at the "Register" link above.

    When you preregister online, you will receive emails on committee meetings, final announcements, and other information that will help you prepare for your meeting. The registration information significantly assists us in preparations for the committee week.

    The cut-off for preregistration is Wednesday, December 4th , 2019. After this date, please register on-site at the ASTM Registration Desk at the New Orleans Marriott.


    HOTEL INFORMATION

    All meetings will be held at The New Orleans Marriott, 555 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA, 70130.

    Hotel Reservations: The D02 December Committee Week Hotel provides prime meeting space for your committee meetings, events and activities. ASTM International is legally bound to fill the contracted guest room block and an inability to fill the block will result in severe financial penalties which could affect negotiations and increase costs for future meetings. Please support ASTM International by reserving your sleeping room at our official D02 December Committee Week Hotel and Meeting site.

    Reservations may be made via the hotel's online reservation system at The New Orleans Marriott Reservations. Reservations may also be made by calling the hotel directly at 1 (800)-228-9290.

    The discounted rate will be honored until the ASTM block is full, but no later than November 6th 2019. The ASTM rate is $179 plus tax. You may be charged a higher rate if reservations are received after the cut-off date, or when the block is full.

    The New Orleans Marriott has a limited number of rooms at the government per diem rate of $150 plus tax. Reservations may be made via our online reservation system at New Orleans Marriott Government Reservations . You must present your ID at the front desk upon check-in.

    ADVANCE DEPOSIT/CANCELLATION POLICY: A Guarantee Deposit equal to one night's room and tax will be charged to the card on file upon booking your reservation. This deposit will be refundable should you cancel your reservation through the end of the business day on Friday, October 18th, 2019. Deposits will be non-refundable for any cancellations made on or after October 19th, 2019.

    IMPORTANT! ASTM Rates are non-commissionable. If you book your reservation through a travel agent, they must ask for a non-commissioned ASTM Group Rate. ASTM cannot adjust your higher rate if commissions were paid to a travel agency.

    INTERNET: The New Orleans Marriott offers a basic wireless connection in the guest rooms or high speed for $12.95 per day.


    TRANSPORTATION AND LOCAL INFORMATION

    SHUTTLE SERVICES: New Orleans Marriott does not have an airport shuttle service. There is shuttle service available from the airport to hotels and various other locations in the New Orleans for $24.00 (per person, one-way) or $44.00 (per person, round-trip). These fares include three (3) bags per person. Additional baggage may be subject to additional fees. Passengers can purchase tickets at the Airport Shuttle ticket booths located on the first level throughout the Baggage Claim area.

    TAXI: From Louis Armstrong International Airport, the cost of a taxi is estimated to be $36. Taxicab booths are located on the first level of the Terminal outside of Baggage Claim Belts 1 and 14. Passengers must wait in line at one of these booths for taxi service.

    RIDESHARING PROGRAM: Transportation Network Providers (TNP), also referred to as a “rideshare” company, provide prearranged transportation through an app, connecting passengers with drivers of vehicles for hire. Lyft and Uber are TNP companies operating in New Orleans, LA.

    PARKING: Only valet parking is available with rates of $47.57 plus tax daily parking.

    COMPLIMENTARY SUPPORT SERVICES AND AMENITIES

    ASTM MEMBERS WORK AREA: ASTM will provide computers with internet connections. This area will also be wireless for your laptop computer. You may visit the ASTM website, apply or renew your membership, order publications or check your email. The complimentary wireless service is limited to the members' work area and the meeting rooms.

    ASTM meetings offer on-site services from the ASTM staff. We provide photocopying service, audio/visual equipment, and a members' work area with complimentary internet computers.


    DRESS/WEATHER

    Attendees have the option to determine their dress at ASTM meetings. Business casual attire is acceptable at this meeting and appropriate for New Orleans, LA. The average temperatures in December range from a high of 65 degrees Fahrenheit to a low of 45 degrees Fahrenheit.


    ACTIVITY FEES

    Several ASTM committees collect a voluntary fee to support activities associated within the committee such as awards, social events, etc. Each committee determines the amount and encourages your contribution. The activity fee can be paid online in advance on the preregistration page. This voluntary contribution is not an ASTM International society fee.


    SPECIAL ACTIVITY

    Several committees hold planned banquet events. You can purchase your tickets online in advance on the preregistration page. Your tickets will be available on-site at the Registration Area.


    MISCELLANEOUS

    Please advise the hotel and ASTM of any disability which will require special attention, the hotel is following ADA standards.
