3/3/2020 - ASTM International has been closely monitoring the unfolding situation with COVID-19/Coronavirus. We are closely following the direction given by the US State Department as it relates to travel. Based on information available now, our Spring Committee Weeks in Boston will be held. Our registration numbers for the April Boston Committee week are quite strong. Of course, a significant escalation of events in the US, particularly Massachusetts, could impact attendance or cause us to take different action. Similarly, other ASTM meetings in the US are expected to be held. We are still evaluating the Committee Week meetings planned for Prague at the end of April. We will keep you informed as we receive additional information and make any changes with our scheduled meetings.

    ASTM staff will provide several training sessions on various subjects to educate and assist officers, members and non-members of ASTM committees. The following topics will be discussed:

  • ASTM International Orientation (Monday) 12:00pm - 1:00pm

    Meeting attendees are invited to a welcome and orientation session. This session will provide a brief introduction to ASTM, its process, electronic tools, and international activities. This is an interactive session and questions are encouraged as we would like attendees to feel comfortable in participating at their standards meetings. Facilitated by ASTM staff, this session also provides new and experienced members and visitors a chance to connect at the beginning of the Committee Week.

  • Balloting and Handling of Negative Votes (Tuesday) 12:00pm - 1:00pm

    This session will inform members on how to effectively move documents through the ASTM balloting process, from initiating a subcommittee ballot through main committee and Society review. A review of the role of COS (Committee on Standards) is included. In addition, learn to get positive results from negative votes! Special focus on the procedural handling of negative votes throughout the balloting process.

  • E-Learning & Proficiency Testing Programs (PTP) Training

    Learn how Training and Proficiency Testing Programs can help you improve proficiency with ASTM Standards and Test Methods! ASTM Training and eLearning offers award-winning continuing education courses and industry leading online training programs.   • Workshop: Introduction to the Interlaboratory Study Program (ILS)

    This module is designed to familiarize members with the ILS Program, its features, benefits, capabilities, and the online registration process. Research Reports will also be specifically addressed during the session. This workshop will benefit anyone planning to run (or participate in) an interlaboratory study to generate a precision statement for a new or existing ASTM test method. Presented by Phillip Godorov and Caitlin Farrell, ASTM ILS Staff.

  • In addition to the ILS Workshop schedule above, several ILS Q&A Sessions have been planned with ASTM ILS Staff. Please feel free to drop by and ask questions about, or brainstorm ideas for, your upcoming interlaboratory studies. ILS Representatives will also be available to review the status of your current interlaboratory studies and help you plan the next steps. Sessions are open to all, and no appointments are needed.

  • Certification: Safety Equipment Institute(SEI)Question and Answer Sessions
    Monday-Wednesday 9:30am-11:30am and 1:30pm-3:30pm

    ASTM Certification Program covers products (including materials, processes, and services) and personnel for industries that desire an independent third-party demonstration of compliance to standards and/or are facing regulatory pressures to prove compliance to standards. All of ASTM’s certification programs are offered through our affiliate, the Safety Equipment Institute.

    Refreshments will be available at all training sessions.


    You must be registered to attend ASTM Meetings. Use our online registration form where you have the ability to register for multiple events, pay fees in advance using a credit card, and receive an electronic confirmation. You may register online at the "Register" link above.

    When you preregister online, you will receive emails on committee meetings, final announcements, and other information that will help you prepare for your meeting. The registration information significantly assists us in preparations for the committee week.

    The cut-off for preregistration is Wednesday, November 28, 2018. After this date, please register on-site at the ASTM Registration Desk at the Washington Hilton.


    All meetings will be held at the Washington Hilton, 1919 Connecticut Ave., NW, Washington, DC, 20009.

    Hotel Reservations: Staying at our contracted hotel is important to ASTM, to the hotel where we are holding this meeting, and ultimately to you as an ASTM member. When you reserve a guest room at another hotel and an ASTM contracted room goes unsold, ASTM is liable and must pay a non-performance penalty fee to the hotel. Please support ASTM by reserving your sleeping room at our official hotel. Reservations may be made via the hotel's online reservation system at Washington Hilton. One night's room and tax deposit is required to confirm a reservation.

    The discounted rate will be honored until the ASTM block is full, but no later than November 12th, 2018. ASTM rates are $187 plus tax. You may be charged a higher rate if reservations are received after the cut-off date, or when the block is full. The hotel requires a credit card to guarantee your reservation, once submitted a confirmation number will be provided electronically.

    The Washington Hilton has a limited number of rooms at the government per diem rate. Reservations may be made via our online reservation system at Washington Hilton Government Reservations. You must present your ID at the front desk upon check-in.

    IMPORTANT! ASTM Rates are non-commissionable. If you book your reservation through a travel agent, they must ask for a non-commissioned ASTM Group Rate. ASTM cannot adjust your higher rate if commissions were paid to a travel agency.

    INTERNET: The Washington Hilton offers a complimentary basic wireless connection in the guest rooms with the ASTM group rate.

    CANCELLATION/CHANGE POLICY: At the Washington Hilton, notice of cancellation must be received 72 hours prior to day of arrival in order to avoid a charge.Failure to do so will incure a penalty equal to the cost of one night's room and tax.

    ASTM MEMBERS WORK AREA: ASTM will provide computers with internet connections. This area will also be wireless for your laptop computer. You may visit the ASTM website, apply or renew your membership, order publications or check your email. The complimentary wireless service is limited to the members' work area and the meeting rooms.

    ASTM meetings offer on-site services from the ASTM staff. We provide photocopying service, audio/visual equipment, and a members' work area with complimentary internet computers.


    Attendees have the option to determine their dress at ASTM meetings. Business casual attire is acceptable at this meeting and appropriate for Washington DC. The average temperatures in December range from a high of 48 degrees Fahrenheit to a low of 30 degrees Fahrenheit.


    Several ASTM committees collect a voluntary fee to support activities associated within the committee such as awards, social events, etc. Each committee determines the amount and encourages your contribution. The activity fee can be paid online in advance on the preregistration page. This voluntary contribution is not an ASTM International society fee.


    Several committees hold planned banquet events. You have the ability to purchase your tickets online in advance on the preregistration page. Your tickets will be available on-site at the Registration Area.
