(a) These methods describe procedures for the determination of suspended and dissolved matter in industrial water of all types, including industrial waste water. They may be applied for the determination and differentiation of total, suspended, dissolved, ignited, and volatile matter, including solids and nonaqueous liquids which are settleable, nonsettleable, or floating. The methods are not intended for the determination of materials normally classified as “oily matter,” such as vegetable oils, animal oils, and petroleum oils that are volatile at the boiling point of water or extractable with organic solvents. (b) These methods are divided according to specific application as follows:
