This bibliography brings up to 1959 the one published by Stillman and Dunlop. In general, the same basis of selection has been followed in this compilation; but in addition to Analytical Chemistry and The Analyst, Analytica Chimica Acta has been covered, because of its connection with the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry. The references are not necessarily limited to the use of photoelectric spectrophotometers, as other means of detection are used. A small number of papers deal with ultraviolet measurements, as reagents are being found which make work in this region feasible. Thus far, similar application of reagents to make inorganic systems measurable in the infrared region apparently has found little use. A few references concern substances not in the ionic condition.
