The Evaluation of Inhibited Transformer Oils

Source

A simple and rapid routine oxidation test for the evaluation of inhibited transformer oils has been developed from the ASTM Method of Test D 1314. Similar test methods are currently under investigation by the International Electrotechnical Commission, but their efforts so far have been concentrated on the evaluation of uninhibited oils only. In the present work, a series of inhibited transformer oils prepared from base oils having widely differing inhibitor susceptibilities has been examined. Correlations have been shown to exist between the results obtained by various oxidation tests in which the catalysts used were soluble copper, mixed soluble copper — soluble iron, and solid copper, respectively.
