    Forming parameters and criteria are discussed with reference to design and production problems. The results of some of the most significant studiesare reviewed briefly. The following specific subjects are discussed: Generalized stress and strain; dimensional similarity; laws of fracture; classification of formed sheet metal parts; basic types of forming action, including stretching, bending and drawing; and the significant parameters and criteria for these three types of forming. Where these parameters and criteria are known to have limited application, the limitations are also discussed.
