Water—Raw Material for Utilities Steam Generation

Source

The increasingly high temperatures and pressures used in modern utility steam generation have fostered a need for (1) high-purity water for boiler feed, (2) more sensitive tests to determine minute amounts of materials, and (3) higher frequency of tests to follow changing conditions more completely. This paper describes current testing methods and equipment, with emphasis on automation as applied to continuous analysis. It points out the difficulties in obtaining representative samples because of possible extraneous contamination and the presence of particulate matter in the stream.
