Substitution of Alkali Oxides in Tricalcium Aluminate

Source

The solubility limits for sodium and potassium oxides dissolved in tricalcium aluminate were determined. From X-ray diffraction and infrared absorption measurements, the limits were 2.25 and 4.59 per cent for sodium oxide and potassium oxide respectively. At sodium oxide contents greater than 2.25 per cent, each of the three major X-ray diffraction peaks of tricalcium aluminate split into two peaks. Splitting of the three major X-ray diffraction peaks was not observed when potassium oxide was substituted into tricalcium aluminate.
