Paramagnetic Resonance of Transition Elements and Irradiated Substances

Source

The application of electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra to welldefined systems containing unpaired electron spins such as transition metals, ions located in crystal lattice, and certain odd electron systems is discussed. Special problems such as resonance from free radicals, conduction electrons in metals and semiconductors, broken bonds, and irradiated substances are also considered. In the study of irradiated substances, discussions are centered on crystals and the dislocation and imperfections that are produced in them by radiation damage. The paramagnetic resonance study of irradiated substances is shown to give qualitative information on the nature of crystal imperfection as well as a quantitative estimate on the number of damage centers.
