The properties most desired of a cement for high-temperature gages are:
1. High electrical resistivity up to the maximum temperature of use,
2. Good adhesion to the substrate metal and to the strain-sensitive elements,
3. Accurate transmission of strains up to 1 per cent,
4. High resistance to flow under steady-state strains up to the maximum temperature of use,
5. Chemical inertness toward the alloy filament of the gage,
6. Thermal expansion that is approximately equal to that of the metal substrate,
7. Freedom from hygroscopic effects after curing,
8. Good working properties,
9. Long shelf life, and
10. Low curing temperature.
