II. Origin of an Interlaboratory Study

Source

The decision to set up an interlaboratory study of a test method can originate in connection with any technical committee activity that involves making decisions based on results from physical or chemical tests of materials. Most of the technical committees are concerned with the problem of formulating test methods, and they generally make interlaboratory studies of these methods before issuing them as standards. Some committees are primarily concerned with the problem of formulating test methods, others with the writing of specifications for materials. In both cases, interlaboratory studies are frequently made for the purpose of determining the precision and accuracy of test results.
