Voids in Irradiated UO

Source

Five types of voids are observed during the metallographic examination of cylindrical uranium dioxide fuel cores irradiated under conditions that produce high central core temperatures and large radial temperature gradients. The types of voids and the patterns they form are related to the UO2 microstructures, which are formed during irradiation.
