In 1916 the “Koninklijk Instituut van Ingenieurs” (the Royal Institute of Engineers) and the “Maatschappij voor Nijverheid en Handel” (Society for Industry and Trade), convinced of the fact that standardization promotes both manufacturers' and general interest, founded the “Hoofdcommissie voor de Normalisatie in Nederland” (HCNN) (Head Commission for Standardization in the Netherlands). The objective of HCNN is to promote standardization in The Netherlands by initiating publicity about standardization and by issuing standards.
