Standardization in Germany

Source

The “Deutscher Normenausschuss” (DNA) (German Standards Assn.) was set up in May 1917 by the “Verein deutscher Ingenieure” (VDI) (Association of German Engineers) as “Normalienausschuss für den allgemeinen Maschinenbau” (Standards Committee for General Mechanical Engineering) from which was formed in December 1917 the “Normenausschuss der deutschen Industrie” (Standards Committee of the German Industry). The final change of title to “Deutscher Normenausschuss” was decided in November 1926 in recognition of the growth of standardization beyond the narrower range of the industrial field.
