Industrial Fabric Filter Bag Test Methods: Usefulness and Limitations

Source

Troubleshooting of a malfunctioning baghouse can often be cost-effectively guided by laboratory testing of the filter bags. Quality assurance programs of fabric can be successfully and fruitfully conducted in the lab. Bags made from different fabric candidates can be given long term, side by side, in plant comparisons, by periodic laboratory tests.

The recent recognition of the above and the increased use of fabric and bag lab testing has led to some controversy over the usefulness and limitations of the lab as a tool for better baghouse operation.

In the paper which follows a description of the tests employed, a profile of a few case histories and a discussion of the usefulness and limitations of lab testing is presented.
