In recognition of accelerating interest in the significance of the mechanical behavior in tension of viscoelastic materials at high strain rates, ASTM Committee D-20 on Plastics has conducted an interlaboratory testing program to assess the effects of various techniques and equipment characteristics on the quantitative data obtained. Progress is reported on the third and fourth round robins wherein the data in part confirm certain previous suppositions and further suggest important parameters requiring clarification. The task group plans next to draft a tentative test procedure to be used in future round robins intended to study some of these parameters.
