A design subsystem is presented which provides a framework in which the fatigue of asphalt concrete might be explicitly considered in the design of asphalt pavements. The operations included in the subsystem are outlined and discussed. The procedure is exemplified, first in a hypothetical situation, and then by instances of the use of the procedure in actual cases. Comment is made on the necessity for further field verification.
