Lead Pigments

Source

Under the subject of lead pigments we should properly include the compounds of lead which, in the form of finely powdered materials, are used as pigments in the paint and other industries. Under a rather narrow classification the lead pigments might be considered as limited to basic carbonate white lead, red lead, white basic lead sulfate, blue basic lead sulfate and, to a certain extent, leaded zinc oxide. Of course, there are other lead compounds which might be classified as lead pigments such as chrome yellows, which are lead chromate compounds, and chrome greens in which lead chromate is an important constituent; but these may better be considered as chemical colors and are described in one of the papers in this symposium on that subject.
